GENERAL CARE AND CLEANING

The suggestions offered in this section will give you some insight into the daily care of your floors. Some of these suggestions are for regular use while others are on an as-needed basis.

  • Keep Entrances Clear – You will want to make sure the walkway into the room with your rubber flooring is free of debris, dirt, or sand. These elements can wear your rubber flooring down faster and embed into the surface.
  • Sweep & Vaccum – The best tools to clean your rubber floors are a broom and a vacuum. These tools will remove and clear debris quickly and keep the surface free of particulates. We also suggest doing this before getting the floor wet for cleaning.
  • Mops for General Cleaning – After the floor is clear of particulates, you can use a mop and the manufacturer recommended cleaning products. Take note, however, you don’t want to saturate the floor with water or cleaning products. A damp mop with mixed in product is really all you will need to get your floors clean. Go light on any product you use with the water as they tend to leave a residue on rubber floors.
  • Avoid Getting Your Floor Wet – The only exception for this is if your floors are installed near a pool or similar space. If that is the case, different care is needed. But for those who have rubber floors in their basement or their home gyms, you’ll want to avoid getting the floors wet. Rubber flooring can collect mildew if they are consistently fighting moisture.
  • Fury Friends – If you plan on allowing pets on your rubber floors there are a few things to consider. Keep nails trimmed so they don’t leave unwanted scratches on your floors. When accidents happen, try to clean these messes up as quickly as possible. This is especially true for wet messes as they can seep into your floors causing stains, residue, and odors. You can use a dry cloth to clean the mess up and a damp mop. A disinfect can be be used on the floor, such as with a spray cleaner, just be sure to test it out before using it on a widespread area.
PRO TIPS FOR RUBBER FLOORING

Now that you have a good handle on how to care for your floors daily, let’s talk about ways to maintain them for years to come. The following tips will prevent damage you may not have thought about yet.

  • Prevent Weight Indentions – If you have furniture, gym equipment, or other heavy objects on your floors, you will see indentations. If you don’t ever plan on moving items around, this might not be a big deal to you. For those who want to avoid the indentations, you can move the pieces around more regularly. We also recommend flat castors or even dense plexiglass sheets that you can place under the footings of your furniture or equipment. This will displace the weight, which will prevent some indentions.
  • Know Your Manufacturing Recommendations – To protect yourself from causing damage to your floors, we suggest you understand what your manufacture recommends for cleaning and maintaining them. This is incredibly important if your flooring comes with a manufacturer’s warranty.
  • Retain Extra Product – You may experience wear, tear, or damage to your floors over time. We suggest obtaining extra rubber flooring, so you have material to do repairs or replace sections. You might not need this for years, but it’s good to plan now in the event your flooring goes discontinued, and you cannot find it again.
  • Temperature Monitoring – Rubber flooring can expand and contract. To avoid this from happening and causing pieces to come loose or wear faster, keep the space between 65-and-85-degrees Fahrenheit. While the product has a high tolerance for temperature changes, if the flooring gets too hot or too cold, you’ll notice. The floors will show signs of gapping or edges will lift, making them a tripping hazard.
  • Environment Hazards – Finally, you will want to prevent prolonged sunlight exposure on your floors. Extended or repeated exposure will result in fading or discoloration. Also, keep your HVAC system clean with regular checkups and filter replacement. This tip will keep smaller particulates and pollens from collecting in your rubber floors.
